Johari: Govt to assist if oil prices get too high - Nation

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government will step in to assist Malaysians should oil prices rise too steeply. Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani (pix) said that this was to ensure that Malaysians were not adversely affected by the rise in oil prices. "At this moment, we (the current situation) are still okay, but we will continue to monitor (the situation)," Johari told reporters after giving a keynote speech at the Global Marketing Summit 2017 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here on Thursday (Nov 16). He however said that the assistance will be for the B40 (bottom 40 percent) and lower level of M40 (middle 40 percent) segments of Malaysians. "We have to ensure that these groups will not be affected by the oil prices," he added.
