THE ranks of jobless Filipinos declined in April but the number of those looking for more work increased, data released by the government on Tuesday showed. The employment rate, at 94.5 percent from 94.3 percent previously, meant that 40.89 million Filipinos had jobs, up from 40.37 million in April 2017. “We are now seeing the contribution of the Build, Build, Build campaign in terms of job generation. The underemployment rate — the proportion of those employed wanting additional work — rose to 17 percent, higher than the 16.1 percent a year ago. The latest reading represented about 6.93 million underemployed workers, higher than the 6.46 million a year ago.
