Isiolo county assembly, NGO in tussle over TB isolation camp

More than 300 tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/Aids patients went up in arms on Wednesday over the planned closure of the said isolation centre. The county government of Isiolo and an NGO are embroiled in a tussle over a building used by the latter to manage cases of tuberculosis in the area. Drug resistant TB remains a major health concern although a survey done last year shows it has slightly declined than previously thought. The county wants to use the isolation camp as a county assembly premise, a move the protagonists say will clamp on progress made in fighting TB in the countyThe organisation has asked the county to reconsider its decision to close down TB Manyattas in the region. Data from the Ministry of Health in March this year, shows that TB cases are on the decline with 83,000 patients being recorded in 2015.
