Indian markets likely to be cautious ahead of Union Budget, bank stocks in focus

Mumbai: Indian equities are likely to be cautious on Thursday ahead of the Union Budget on 5 July to be presented by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.3% as did Japan's benchmark Nikkei, and Australia was up 0.6%. Back home, shares of Zee group are likely to be in focus on reports that the Subhash Chandra-led company is in advanced talks with potential buyers. Bank stocks may also be in focus today on hopes that public sector banks will get recaptilisation by government in the upcoming Budget. In the foreign exchange market, the euro traded at near its two-week low of $1.1268 set the previous day.
