KUALA LUMPUR: The Government has agreed to increase the number of elite commandos in its VAT 69 and Special Actions Unit (UTK). "We sent our proposal to the Government to double our UTK and VAT 69 numbers," he said, adding that there were about 400 UTK and VAT 69 personnel currently. "We have one FRU troop there made up solely of women and we hope to add another troop," he said. The IGP also said that they would be replacing the ageing fleet of police vehicles in phases. "We do need them as fast as possible for our elite teams such as the Special Task Force On Organised Crime (STAFOC), Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gambling and Gangsterism (STAGG), and Special Tactics and Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING), or lese their effectiveness will be affected," he said.
