Humana Inc., a managed health care company, offers coordinated health care through health maintenance organizations, preferred provider organizations, BLOOMBERG NEWSIn an unusual public disclosure, Humana said it will not make a proposal to combine with Centene, responding to rumors and speculation it was interested in a friendly takeover of the rival health insurer. The disclosure is further sign that Centene's effort to buy WellCare Health Plans will proceed as Centene CEO Michael Neidorff has been saying all along. But stories emerged that some small Centene investors led by a couple of hedge funds wanted Centene to consider a buyout by Humana, which is only beginning to grow its Medicaid business and has a large number of Medicare Advantage plans. But Humana said Monday morning it's not interested in a friendly takeover or combination with Centene. But big institutional shareholders of Centene nor Humana were interested in a Humana takeover, according to analysts.
