Human resources regulator banks on ongoing vetting to weed out quacks


The regulator said that according to the new law, no person can practice as a human resource management professional without a valid practicing certificate. The Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) said plans are underway to register and certify all HR professionals by end of this year. Unqualified human resources practitioners will be weeded out in an ongoing probe, the institute that regulates the profession said on Tuesday. Sitimah said the institute has tightened the entry requirements for HR professionals since “untrained and incompetent” managers have infiltrated the profession. Chairman Elijah Sitimah said all HR professionals in the country, including consultants, are required to reapply for membership with the institute.
