Housewife paid for maid who never arrived

JOHOR BARU: A housewife was forced to hire a part-time maid to do the family’s household chores after a domestic maid agency failed to send over a worker. The 57-year-old, who only wanted to be known as Tan, said despite paying the agency in July last year, the maid never turned up. Tan said after five weeks, the agency failed to send the maid as promised and the person handling her applications came up with excuses saying there were some problems. In October last year, the claimant paid RM9,500 to the Johor Baru-based agency’s associate in Kuala Lumpur to hire a foreign maid. She said upon checking with the department, the officer-in-charge informed her that the maid had indeed already arrived in Malaysia but was working elsewhere in the country.
