KOTA KINABALU: At least 10 houses were washed away in flash floods along the Sungai Pampang in the interior Keningau district on Sunday (Dec 17). Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department operations chief Khatizah Rahaban said they were alerted of flash floods at two other settlements along the river - Kampung Contoh and Kampung Limbawan. Khatizah said nine people comprising seven adults and three children were evacuated from Kampung Contoh after their houses were inundated. Video clips of showing the houses built along the Sungai Pampang being washed away by gushing water went viral over social media late Sunday. The scenes were reminiscent of the dozens of houses that were washed away in the midst of Greg storm that hit Sabah on Dec 26, 1996 leaving some 130 people dead and hundreds missing.
