Last Sumatran rhino in severe health - Nation

KOTA KINABALU: The country’s last surviving female Sumatran rhino, Iman, is in a life-threatening situation and veterinarians cannot do much for it at the moment. Sabah Wildlife Department director Augustine Tuuga said Iman began bleeding from her uterine leiomyoma tumor three days ago. "Both the Borneo Rhino Alliance veterinarians are constantly monitoring Iman along with the keepers. However, wildlife experts had to euthanise Puntung last June after her skin cancer had spread throughout her body causing her to suffer. Hopes of getting an artificial rhino breeding programme were dashed after scientists were unable to recover any eggs from Puntung’s ovaries.
