Police have now advised the public to stay indoors, saying "riots" have broken out across Hong Kong. The shooting sent shockwaves through Hong Kong, where huge demonstrations have been held in recent weeks. Responding to the shooting Amnesty International said: "The shooting of a protester in Hong Kong marks an alarming development in the police’s response to protests. UK based charity Hong Kong Watch said the British government must act in response to the shooting. In a statement it said: "Hong Kong Watch calls on the United Kingdom government to consider measures which can be taken to defend the rights and freedoms of people in Hong Kong.
