The three had come to break tragic news: the body of their son, James O’Neill – or Jim, as they knew him – had been found in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. There are other sources of confusion for the O’Neill family. “No identification has been possible,” reads the autopsy report, which cites the dead man’s name as “James O’Neill”. The Garda report concluded that nothing was found at the scene in Phoenix Park to suggest that the death was suspicious.
