It also ordered the factory authorities to submit a report within a month on how much money was spent on this purpose. Monday’s order came from the bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das after a primary hearing on a writ petition filed by three rights organisations. The bench also issued a ruling asking the government and the factory authorities to explain why they should not be ordered to provide sufficient compensation to the victims. A fire, followed by a huge explosion, ravaged the cigarette and food packaging factory in Tongi on Sept 10. Two cases have been filed over the incident but police are yet to make any arrests.
