A fatal fire broke out at the Tongi-based factory of the company, owned by former BNP MP Syed Makbul Hossain, on Sep 10, claiming so far 39 lives. Three more bodies found on MondayThe bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das gave the order on Monday after initial hearing of a petition filed by three rights bodies – Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) and Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA). However, the factory management can still withdraw funds from the accounts for wages and compensations of workers. The court also issued a rule asking why it should not order compensation for the victims. Nineteen people, including secretary to the labour ministry, inspector general of police and owner Syed Makbul Hossain have been ordered to come up with explanations.
