A guest lecturer at Education University was sentenced to 12 months behind bars for possession of offensive weapons in a new year's day anti-government protest. Sam Sam Ka-lam, 37, was charged with possession of offensive weapons in a public place and possession of offensive weapons with intent. Sam carried a homemade crossbow and 20 sharp wooden sticks when the police arrested him during the Wan Chai protest on January 1, this year. The magistrate did not accept Sam's claim of carrying bows and sharp wooden sticks 'unintentionally.' A video was played in court, it shows that the bow and sharpened wooden sticks can be used together with a shooting distance of more than five meters.
