Government needs to address aviation industry balance sheet

Scheduled traffic at Irish airports is dominated by two airlines - Aer Lingus and Ryanair. Both have stronger balance sheets than the typical European airline and are favourites to be among the survivors. The more vulnerable of the two is Aer Lingus. Both Irish airlines have been critical of the failure to initiate Covid testing at airports here. The Government needs to address the balance sheet difficulties in all the state transport companies, including Irish Rail and the bus companies, where the picture cannot be healthy either.
