GAA count cost of 'staggering' losses

(stock photo)The GAA is facing losses of up to €70m because of the coronavirus crisis. The figure, described at a high-level meeting yesterday by finance director Ger Mulryan as "a staggering number", will send shockwaves through the Association. The GAA confirmed yesterday that the All-Ireland football and hurling championships will go ahead as planned next month after the Government agreed to a GAA request for financial support. The GAA expects the championships to cost around €19.5m. Mulryan said the GAA is now facing "major financial restructuring" to try and "control losses".
