This year's wave of closures — spanning drugstore chains, clothing retailers, and craft stores — is the largest ever recorded, Coresight found. Other struggling chains, including CVS, Claire's, and Torrid, also ranked among the top 20 for store closures — though each has kept several locations open as they scale back their footprints. Coresight says 566 additional closures have already been scheduled for early 2026, led by long-struggling chains such as Walgreens, 7-Eleven and Dollar General. Torrid, the trendy plus-size clothing mall staple, leads the list of clothing retail closures, with 20 shops slated to permanently shut. Still, retail analyst Neil Saunders previously told the Daily Mail that the outlook isn't as grim as it seems.
