The recent letter from Aisling McNiffe (‘Government must show it really appreciates the valuable work done by carers in the home’, Letters, January 30) broke my heart. How is it that we can provide well-paid citizens with an extra €81,000 per year, yet we can’t provide sufficient allowance, or real physical help, to family carers who tend to their charges all day every day? These family carers are confined to their home, with or without Covid. Vaccinate all family carers as a matter of urgency. ‘Go and love, go and love, young man,If the lady be young and fair.’Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,I am looped in the loops of her hair.
