An Italian family's Christmas celebrations turned into a nightmare after a mother and daughter died following a festive dinner. The mother and daughter experienced the same symptoms, including nausea and severe abdominal pain, in the days following the meal. They were both admitted to hospital, where the teenager died at around 10.30pm on Saturday evening while her mother died a few hours later, on Sunday morning. Di Ielsi and Di Vita were both prematurely discharged from hospital twice, on December 25 and 26, before returning on Saturday with acute symptoms. The mother and daughter died in Cardarelli hospital in Campobasso, southern Italy'These ingredients are widely consumed here in town; they're part of the traditional Christmas menu,' a resident said.
