MELAKA: The Sungai Melaka tourist monorail which resumed operations on Dec 4 after being suspended since 2013 due to technical problems has received encouraging response from the public. He said the recreational mono­rail operator, Monorail Themepark and Studios Sdn Bhd (MTS), will acquire a second coach in January to provide more frequent services to the public. Idris said based on the figures tabled by the MTS to the state government, the company was expected to generate an annual gross profit of RM1.2mil from the recreational monorail service. He said 5% of the gross profit would be handed over to the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) which had spent RM8.7mil to revive and upgrade the recreational monorail service. The recreational monorail operates from 10am to 11pm from Mondays to Thursdays, with extended service till midnight on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
