CYBERJAYA: A Maba (Malaysia Basketball Association) Selection team, comprising non-Chinese players, have wowed the sport’s fraternity by winning the Division 2 title of the Agong Cup National Basketball Championships. Guided by head coach Dr Faiz Baharuddin, the Maba side stunned an experienced Perak side 73-71 in the semi-finals on Friday. The team’s success bodes well for Maba, who are trying to engage more non-Chinese players. We’re still targeting more non-Chinese players from the grassroots, especially at boarding schools. The Maba Selection team are still focused on one more match – a playoff to qualify for Division One next year.
