The injured were identified as Rajib Biswas, 33, Jatramoi Tripura, 22, Abu Hasan, 24, Md Babul, 34, and Hashem, 40, workers of Sheema Steel Mills Ltd.Shamim Sheikh, Inspector (Investigation) of Sitakunda police station, said the explosion took place around 11:30am while the workers were melting iron in a furnace. Melted iron sprang out of the furnace and fell on the workers following the blast, leaving them injured, he said. On June 15, 2010, a worker was killed while 10 others were injured in a furnace explosion at the mill. Nine workers suffered burn injuries in another explosion in 2017.
