Funeral for Michigan bailiff killed at court draws officers

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) " With mourners from as far as Texas, a bailiff who was fatally shot at a courthouse has been laid to rest with full military honors in southwestern Michigan. The 63-year-old Kienzle worked as a bailiff after retiring as a police sergeant. Ron Kienzle's funeral Monday was attended by officers from across the country, a week after he and fellow bailiff Joe Zangaro were gunned down by a jail inmate who was trying to escape the Berrien County courthouse. Officials added an overflow room to accommodate people at the Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College. Rod Rose, a fire captain from South Bend, Indiana, says it's "devastating" for anyone in law enforcement to learn that someone has died in the line of duty.
