Fryeburg Fire Department gets big grant for gear

(DAYMOND STEER PHOTO)FRYEBURG, Maine — Fire Chief Andrew Dufresne got an ovation at last Thursday's Fryeburg selectmen's meeting with the announcement that the Fryeburg Fire Department is the recipient of a $230,101 federal grant, which is the largest of its kind in Maine. Dufresne said that he got confirmation of 2016 Fire Act Grant award in calls from U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Sen. Susan Collins' Office and Congressman Bruce Poliquin's office. The grant covers the purchase of breathing gear, firefighter suits (known as turnout gear) and training. Selectmen thanked the chief, but he credited the members of the Fire Department for getting the grant application in five months ago. According to the congressman's office, it is awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
