BY THE NUMBERSUnusually cool temperatures and wet weather made for a notable month of May. Flagstaff received 3.02 inches of precipitation last month, second only to 1992, when the city received 4.14 inches, according to the National Weather Service. Many other areas in northern Arizona either set or approached records for rainfall in May, such as Prescott, Grand Canyon, Williams and Window Rock. In addition, the average temperature in Flagstaff in May was 45.1 degrees, the third coolest since 1899. Finally, Flagstaff saw 1.5 inches of snow in May, more than double the monthly average of 0.7 inches.
