Dr. Gerishom Sande was the first locally trained general surgeon to be selected for neurosurgical training, joining the unit in 1976. Gerishom Sande graduated from Makerere University College which was part of the then University of. Father of Alfa, Joyce, Martin, the late Christian and Jerry, Victoria and Ken.He was among the best neurosurgeon in Kenya. He worked at the Kenyatta National Hospital and Coast general Hospital, Mombasa as an intern and Medical Officer. Prof Sande retired to a quiet life in his farm in Migori County, Kenya, where he spent the later years of his life.
