Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish a vegetation blaze in Totara Valley on Monday afternoon. Southern Fire Communications shift manager Brent Dunn said appliances from the Pleasant Point, Cave and Washdyke fire brigades attended the grass and gorse fire in Howell Rd, near Totara Valley. "It was about 300m by 10m of grass and gorse on fire," Dunn said. Fire crews arrived at the scene at 5.06pm and the fire was under control by 5.30pm, Dunn said.
