A SCHOOLBOY who had to give up sport after becoming paralysed at the age of 16 can now go fly-fishing after an engineer made a robotic arm which helps him use his wheelchair on riverbanks. However, their whole world changed at Christmas 2018 when Tomas underwent an operation after complaining of persistent pains in his back. He is also able to drive a Gator vehicle and his other main passion is fly-fishing. Shane Phelan, an electronics engineer who works in robotics and specialises in farm equipment, thought he might have the solution. The Gator allows Tomas to travel from his house to go fishing on the banks of the River Suir.
