At a meeting of the APDU Council held in Colombo on Friday, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was elected chairman of the union while New Zealand National Party President Peter Goodfellow Deputy Chairman. "BNP applied to be a member of the APDU nearly a year back when we were just an associate member. The latest APDU council meeting upgraded BNP's status from an associate to full member. "India's ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is also a member of this organization," he added.
