The scam works by criminals pretending to be genuine buyers messaging sellers on the Gumtree online advert board. This link takes the seller to a fake, Gumtree-branded website that asks for their bank details before the buyer's cash can change hands. People listing items on Gumtree obviously want to sell them, especially when lockdowns meant viewing and selling items has been almost impossible for months. Have you lost money to a Gumtree fraud?
