The country is again seeing a surge in the number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, particularly in the National Capital Region, according to experts who are monitoring the spread of the virus. “The period of the declining trend in cases observed in the NCR in the past few months has now ended. But hospital occupancy in regular and intensive care beds for Covid-19 patients remain below critical levels for 15 of the 17 cities in NCR. Octa said while the surge was in its early stages, it could still be reversed through intensified testing, tracing and isolation of patients. On Tuesday, the Department of Health reported 1,314 new cases of Covid-19, for a total of 462,815.
