In video footage received by the Dhaka Tribune, the chairman was seen speaking on behalf of the Santals at a human chain demonstration. He also claimed that the local MP Azad had misappropriated some Tk10 crore, taking assistance from the mill authorities. The request was denied by locals, both from the Santal community and a few agitated Bengalis who had given their lands, said the landless people seeking anonymity. After the attack took place, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gaibandha Abdus Samad visited the area and said he would rehabilitate the Santals elsewhere. Union Chairman Bulbul and MP Abul Kalam Azad could not be reached over phone, despite several attempts.
