Ethiopia Expresses Interest in Hosting African Cup of NationsAugust 10, 2017 - After decades of absence, Ethiopia expressed interest in hosting the African cup of nations in the near future. During a discussion between CAF officials and Ethiopian Prime Minster Hailemariam Desalegn, the prime minster affirmed Ethiopia’s interest to host the continental football event. Ethiopia hosted the African cup of nations in 1962 and reigned as champion after defeating Egypt in the extra time of final game. After 1962 cup Ethiopia’s participation in the African cup of nations has remained weak, making an appearance only in 2013. The time for the comeptition has been moved to June whiles the participating teams expanded to 24.
