Kenya is among countries whose environmental changes are occurring at a faster pace than previously thought, a report released last week has warned. The Global Environmental Outlook: Regional Assessments report says indoor air pollution is responsible for 600,000 premature deaths every year in Africa. “If current trends continue and we fail to enact solutions, the environment will continue to decline,” Steiner said. The report was released ahead of the United Nations Environment Assembly, which opened in Nairobi yesterday. The report by Unep in Nairobi said population growth, rising levels of consumption, land degradation and climate change have left countries suffering from severe water scarcity.
