Environment minister: Govt may allocate 10,000 acres of forest land for Rohingya, if needed

Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju has said some partial damage to the environment needed to be accepted, for the sake of the Rohingya refugees fleeing to Bangladesh from Myanmar. The minister also told the reporters that the government may allocate some 10,000 acres of forest land for the accommodation of the refugees if required. “We have to compromise, and this partial damage to the environment, people and forest lands needs to be tolerated for this humanitarian cause,” the environment minister said. The minister made the above statement after his visit to the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya upazila on Wednesday. “The prime minister provided shelter to the Rohingya refugees on humanitarian grounds, thereby she would do everything for their protection,” he added.
