Embassy officials have been “working through the night” to ensure that Irish families who travelled to Ukraine to meet their new babies born via surrogacy can come home as quickly as possible. Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney said all consular assistance has been given to a number of Irish parents who had to travel to the volatile region in order to be united with their new babies. Over the coming months, around a dozen babies expected to be born via surrogacy arranged by Irish couples amid huge concern over the volatility of the region as tensions continue with Russia. She welcomed the news that emergency travel documentation for those newborn babies has been issued by the (DFA). In normal circumstances, it can take three or four weeks to register the birth of a child with the Irish parents and the surrogate mother required to travel to the Irish embassy to get a birth certificate.
