There was a shouting match in the Embu assembly on Tuesday as MCAs elected the acting speaker after Justus Mate and other temporary speakers travelled to China. Some MCAs wrote Ireri’s first name as Roba, while others wrote Monunga, instead of Manunga. The MCAs started verbal exchanges in vernacular, Kiswahili and English. Mate is accompanied by deputy speaker Ibrahim Swaleh; members of the speakers panel John Makenge, Martin Mwangi, Steve Munene and nominated MCAs Rosemary Ireri and Mercy Mbae. Trouble started when deputy clerk Rosalyn Miano read a notice from Mate, saying he has travelled to China.
