New Zealand's 21-year-old Rio Olympic bronze medallist surprised even herself as she comfortably won the special inner-city pole vault competition with a clearance that comfortably surpassed her previous PB and national record of 4.82m. "It was just so nice to get a look at those really big heights I've never really jumped at before. That would be the best lead-in to the Commonwealth Games I could hope for." Commonwealth Games-bound Aucklander Nick Southgate won the men's competition with a best clearance of 5.10m, just missing all three attempts at 5.35.
