Rescue underway for injured tramper on Mt TaranakiRobert Charles/Fairfax NZ A helicopter is on its way to rescue an injured tramper from Mt Taranaki (file photo). A Taranaki woman has fallen and hit her head while climbing down from the summit of Mt Taranaki. The rescue team would assess her condition and would either bring her down the mountain tonight, or they would stay overnight at a hut not far from where she was waiting. A woman whose arm was injured by falling rocks spent the night at Syme Hut, along with her partner and an alpine rescue team, after low cloud prevented a rescue helicopter from picking her up on Saturday afternoon. The two trampers and their rescuers walked down the mountain this morning.
