The Governor-General officially dissolved Parliament on Sunday, kicking off the process that will lead to an election on October 17. The Government, which is essentially a creature of the 52nd Parliament, remains in full power until the election, however. The document was witnessed by Parliament’s clerk, David Wilson, deputy clerk Suze Jones, and Principal Clerk (Procedure) David Bagnall. THE ROAD TO ELECTION DAYFollowing the dissolution the Governor General must issue the “writ” – a formal direction that the election be held – within seven days. The final debate will be held by TVNZ on October 15, just two days before election day.
