The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has officially launched the first field phase of a national campaign to sterilize and vaccinate free-roaming dogs across Egypt. The initiative kicked off in Cairo’s Ain Shams district on Tuesday, marking a strategic shift in the state’s approach to managing its stray animal population under the “Rabies-Free Egypt 2030” national strategy. The choice of Ain Shams as a starting point was based on research data, following a high volume of public complaints regarding stray dog packs in the area. Alongside field operations, the General Administration of Veterinary Guidance launched an intensive awareness campaign for Ain Shams residents. The outreach focused on educating the public on safe interactions with free-roaming dogs and the prevention of zoonotic diseases.
