By Jamie MortonVideo will play in Play now Don't auto playNever auto playIt seems even the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), more than 18,000km away in Switzerland, reported "feeling" this morning's earthquake. The beam orbit of the world's largest and most powerful particle accelerator, housed in a tunnel deep beneath the France-Switzerland border, was slightly affected by the quake. It's a 27km ring of superconducting magnets with a number of accelerating structures to boost the energy of the particles along the way. Inside it, two high-energy particle beams travel at close to the speed of light before they are made to collide. "Despite being 27km in circumference, the Large Hadron Collider is enormously sensitive to small changes in its environment," Easther said.
