By AMINA WAKOMore by this AuthorThe European Union has asked Kenya and Ethiopia to organise a security summit on cross-border cooperation following tensions on the Kenya-Somalia border. The fighting began after Somalia accused Nairobi of harbouring fugitive Jubbaland Security Minister Abdirashid Hassan Abdinur. As part of efforts to end the tensions, President Kenyatta later sent a security team led by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to Somalia for discussions on cross-border matters with President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo. The EU lauded this move, saying such a meeting is important in de-escalating disagreements. It should consider incorporating steps to verify and monitor the situation on the ground as a confidence-building measure," the union said.
