PETALING JAYA: Those criticising Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed over his silence on beer festivals have been told not to turn a blind eye to the drug abuse problem that the country faces. The former prime minister of 22 years said if non-Muslims wanted to drink beer until they passed out, that was their problem. Dr Mahathir also questioned why Muslim youth were involved with drugs in the first place and if more could be done to make them reject it. Dr Mahathir said without this, some youth were easily led astray, including getting involved with drugs. I believe Muslims should give more emphasis to this issue, instead of preventing non-Muslims from drinking beer," he said.
