HONG KONG: A university professor in north-western China has been put in detention for 10 days for hitting and kicking a female street cleaner. Police said Ge attacked the woman on Wednesday because his car had been blocked by the cleaner’s truck. Ge visited the woman in hospital three days after the attack and his wife also went to see her the following day. Ge’s wife said angry web users had found out the family’s contact information, and she was receiving hundreds of phone calls a day. The university also released a photo of a handwritten apology letter from the professor, who said he deeply regretted hurting the cleaner.
