The Bombay High Court on Friday rejected prayers sought in a Public Interest litigation (PIL) to direct police to lodge a First Information Report against civic body officials in the death of Dr Deepak Amrapukar after falling into an uncovered manhole or pay a compensation of Rs 50 lakh. A division bench of Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and NM Jamdar, while asking the family members to raise the prayers before an appropriate forum, said “We are pained by the death of a senior doctor but we also cannot forget the technicalities involved for a petition to be heard as public interest.”The bench asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and state government to file their reply on prayers raising concerns over potholes and manholes. The body of Amrapukar, who had gone missing on Tuesday after heavy rains, was recovered on Thursday from a nullah in Worli.
