Discouraging start in the pool for Malaysian Para-swimmers

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s gold medal hunt in the pool got off to a discouraging start when they only managed to bag four silver and two bronze medals in the first-day of para swimming at the National Aquatics Centre in Bukit Jalil. The nation’s third silver medal came from Anderson Jamba (1:02.64s) in the men's 50m breaststroke SB3 category, which was won by Vietnam's Ha Van Hiep (1:01.83). The first day of para swimming saw Indonesia bag the half of the 20 gold medals on offer followed by Vietnam with three gold medals. At the 2015 Asean Para Games in Singapore, it was Vietnam who dominated the aquatic events with 19 gold, 22 silver and 21 bronze medals. Para swimming continues tomorrow until September 22 with 64 more gold medals on offer.
