He was speaking to reporters after inaugurating a workshop on research in power and energy sector at Bidyut Bhaban on Sunday. The Maitree Super Thermal Power Project is a joint venture by India and Bangladesh and will come up at Rampal in Bagerhat near the Sundarbans, the delta region declared a World Heritage Site by the UN body. A section of the media recently reported that the UNESCO has written to the Bangladesh government, urging it to scrap the project. He said the government had earlier informed the UN body about the technical matters related to the Rampal power plant. According to him, the government was working to create capability of adding 1,500 megawatt power every year.
