The air of Dhaka is back to hazardous levels despite seeing drastic improvement in the morning on Friday, according to an international index. In real time ranking by the US Air Quality Index (AQI), the Bangladeshi capital had dropped to eighth place at 9am on Friday but was back at the first place around 9pm. Dhaka has been grappling with polluted air and continues to rank among the top five cities with the most polluted air in the world in the index. A score over 300 indicates the quality is hazardous while below 50 means it is good according to the AQI index. Department of Environment Director (Air quality management) Md Ziaul Haque had told the Dhaka Tribune that the capital’s air quality would remain like this throughout February and March before gradually improving during the monsoon season.
